JackDaw PM'd asking about CAE Shafts... I'll post here for the benefit of all...
Jack's question was...
I have some 1816 CAE Camo Magnum III's, was wondering what the "alloy"
might be on those (6061? 7075?), that sort of thing.
Any other info or links about CAE would be most appreciated, thanks.
Jack;
The CAE Camo Magnum II and III shafts are/were excellent quality XX75's (7075 alloy) with hard anodizing in various camo patterns depending on when they were made. I would recommend any of the CAE vintage aluminum shafts you can find other than the "fluted" models which were very fragile and problematic from an insert/hardware stance. Many of these were made in the 80's when Easton still had an aluminum plant in Van Nuys, Cali. Crazy Carl was the president/owner and boy was he a character!!... he would have been a great Pirate!... the 60's were REALLY good to him...(along with the 70's, 80's, etc...)
He became involved in the American Arrow Company in the late 80's with Steve Greenwood trying to make aluminum arrows to compete with big diamond E...didn't go too well for them, then he was making/selling small diameter pultruded carbon arrows similar to AFC/Beman's with the outserts in the 90's... I've been around and into this longer'n dirt, so if you have any questions about gear made in the 50's till now, I've probably dealt with 'em or know of em... Dad and Pop started shooting and making archery gear in the 40's... Thanks, Rob
Haven't talked to Carl in years... hope he's still around!
Can't believe I still have this, but the last address I have for him is:
