I'm new here. Been around the other sites for a longtime. I'm from New Jersey.

Been shooting a bow since I was 4 years old -- I'll be the big 4-0 in July -- Archery and fly fishing is pretty much all do.

Hello all,

Been lurking for almost a year and have picked up a lot of great information. I am 47, live in south-central Wisconsin and only started shooting archery 3 years ago. I have never been accused of being a team-player and archery is a great meditation & exercise (mental and physical) outlet for me... it has been on my bucket list since I first shot crappy green all-fiberglass bows while a boy scout 35-ish years ago. I grew up in Chicago and hunting wasn't something that anyone I knew did... and I am not interested in starting. I understand the need and am not an "anti-"... hope that people who do hunt are respectful and ethical. I shoot the blank bale and 3-D exclusively… striving to be a good instinctive archer.

I've made the usual beginner's mistakes: started way too heavy with a 60# Bear Montana (used); and then a 65# Glen St. Charles Hill-style longbow; and then got smart and dropped bow weight (49# Massie longbow) and then made Wu Wei, my first longbow this past winter (http://daohead.com/loose-longbow.html)

I have a personal need to learn new things and "make stuff," so archery has been a great outlet for me… http://daohead.com/loose-stuff.html

Read too many books and tried to adopt too many styles... after 2 years of fumbling and flailing, I went to Rick Welch's shooting school, learned a lot... picked up a style that works for me, and continue to practice and shoot... I am neither a celebrity worshiper nor disciple of anyone.

Hey guys... name is David. Live down in Lower Alabama near Mobile. I am an eye doctor with an awesome wife and precious 2 year old. Been a bowhunter since 2003, trying to get off the training wheels this year after building my first recurve, now in very early stages of a take down model. I joined back earlier this year and have soked up a ton of helpful info on both shooting and bow building. Had it not been for some guys on here, I dont know if my first bow would have even been shootable, much less turned out anywhere near as good as it did.

Thanks guys,

Dave

Hello to all! My name is Paul Johnston I am 53yrs old, a retired USPS letter carrier, ex Navy deep sea diver, husband of 20yrs and father of two grown boys and am a grandfather. I have been drawing a bowstring for about 45yrs and am addicted more than ever! I enjoy hunting and shooting compounds, recurves and longbows-if it has a string I am down with it! I try and hunt deer and bear yearly with special out of state hunts when I get permits. I shoot daily on my 3d range on my 40 acres. I make my arrows and strings. I have attended Bob Wesleys Whispering Pines shooting school and also spent 2 days with Rick Welch and am very greatfull for what I learned from both these great guys. I hope to glean some interesting insight to the world of archery on this site! Image

Hello to all on here, I see some familiar screen names, so hopefully this won't be too painful. My name is Bobby Graham Jr., I live in Hinton, WV, which is in Summers County, down in the south eastern part of the state. I am the proud father to 4 kids now, my wife gave birth to our newest baby just over a week and a half ago, so my house was always hectic before, now even more so.

I am currently 35 years old, my past jobs range from starting as a Air Force Security Police K9 handler to a Federal Prison Guard all the way to now as a cellular technician. I have had an interesting path to get to where I am now needless to say. I love shooting recurves and longbows, I have been shooting them exclusively now for the past 5-6 years. I recently got the ILF bug, and thanks to a fellow WV Pirate on here, got a hold of a Trad Tech Titan. That was back in September of 09, and I've been tinkering and playing ever since with it. :D I was a lurker around here for a while and decided to join on up.

I am an active member in our local trad club, which I will try to remain in some compacity but getting harder with 3 kids under the age of 6 wanting to do other things at times. I love to bow hunt, that is my vacation to myself, even for just a few off days during the week and mostly Saturdays in the fall.

The site here is a welcome change, I have never been a big poster, but I hope to learn a lot from folks here, and if possible to contribute, then I most certainly will.
The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.

Hello POA. My name is Jeff Roark. I am 34 years old and live in Clay County, Ky, in the Daniel Boone National Forest. I live here with my wife, daughter and son. We have a small 7 acre farm that we raise our own beef on. I served 5 years in the Marine Corps and was an Air Traffic Control Communications Technician and was honorably discharged as a Sgt./E-5. I have been working for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for nearly 11 years and I am an Electronics Technician.

I was always into archery as a child/young teen and lived in the woods and river. After I left for the Marine Corps I just sort of fell away from the things I loved growing up. This past year during muzzleloading I fell in love with the hunt again. It was not long after the seaon was over that I was flipping through channels trying to find something to put me to sleep that I stumbled upon Bryan Ferguson shooting on the history channel. When I watched him it flipped the switch for me and I knew what I wanted to do. I didn't even know there was anything called "traditional archery", I just knew I wanted a bow without the wheels and all the stuff that went along with it. I wanted something simple and fun. My grand father had two old recurves that had been hanging on his gun rack for as long as I can remember and I asked for them and he gave them to me. An old Pearson Pinto and an Indian Archery. I have been shooting the old Pinto and she shoots like a dream for me, but I want to put it up and and hand it down to my son in time.

As of now I am waiting on a brand new Quinn Stallion and hope I get it before hunting season begins! Glad to be here and I also post over at Tradtalk and Kyhuntnfish.

Jeff

Hello,

My name is Tony
Bakewell, Tennessee
56 years old.
Married
NRA Member
Tennessee Archery Hunter Safety Instructor
I am a member of The Highland Sportsman Club which is one of the older hunting clubs in Tennessee.
I am a member of the "Ye Olde Fartes Traditional Archers and Sore Losers" archery club out of Crossville Tennessee.

I used to shoot a Browning compound but about 4 years ago I bought a used recurve and now the compound is under the steps gathering dust.
I doubt if I will shoot it again. I am hooked on traditional.

I shoot 3-D with:
58# Three Rivers Tomahawk longbow
56# Hummingbird recurve
50# Osage orange selfbow made by Eric Krewson

I shoot a little 3-D at local clubs with an 200# Excalibur crossbow.

I hunt mostly deer, pigs and bear usually on public land.

During archery season I hunt with the Three Rivers Tomahawk and a 50# 48" Bear recurve.

I use a Thompson Center Renegade in .54 during the muzzle loading season.

In gun season I normally use a Marlin 1894 in 45-70 or a Savage bolt in .243.

When I hunt the river it is out of a 16ft flat bottom with a 25hp Johnson outboard.
I use the same boat to fish.

Well enough about me. I am going to check out this place.

Tony

Greetings Pirates!

My name is James Lyons, 32 yrs old, 10 yr old beautiful daughter. Divorced but have been with my beautiul Filipina girlfriend for the last few years. Originally from Ohio (go Buckeyes!) but currently live outside Baltimore, MD. As far as pirating goes, I am an 8 yr. U.S. Navy veteran and a "Golden Shellback" (I'll leave that for you to look up some interesting Navy history!..lol). So I DO know Davy Jones!

The traditional archery bug really bit me a couple of months ago out of nowhere. Before then, really had no interest and never picked up a bow. Now all of the sudden I've seen the light and I think I've found a new religon : ) I just bought my first used bow to start on: a 1967 Bear Kodiack Hunter recurve @ 58"/50#. Still putting it together and the accessories. So ANY help and/or insite will be VERY much appreciated! With any luck, I hope to be slinging arrows down range soon.

Hope to meet as many of you as I can...and many thanks to WheeliePete for your help and turning me onto this site :D

Name is Tom Martins 25 y/o but to those who know me here its Salty or my new favorite Willow (tnx 10bows LOL)

Yes I'm short, stocky, and full of piss and vinegar hahaha. Several of my friends from here got me involved in traditional archery, helped me get geared up with my first bows arrows and knowledge and I only hope to do for others what they have done for me. Im a medic for 7 years and have worked inner cities and ghettos for that entire time 70+ hours a week. Im now located in North NJ just moved up from south NJ. Just closed down my osteology buisness (european mounts and bone articulation for museums). You name it I made a skull clean and white from it and only produced museum quality work. Clsoed it up due to family health problems and also the reason for the move.

Family info not much to it girlfriend who also shoots and hunts with me will be married in a few years but not rushing a thing. She shoots my bows better then I do and enjoys the early season hunts but wont do winter bow haha.

Ive been registered here for a while but just made my way back and started posting. Been banned from the other site not sure if I am allowed to post that type of stuff so I'll leave it out but its to no surprise from my friends that it happened. I guess I didn't drink the coolaid haha. Feel free to email/PM me and I can explain for those of you with a vise for them.

Other then that been hunting for 12 years traditional for going on 4. I eat a wide array of game...more so then alot of people i know. Im not political and Im a straight shooter when it comes to speaking my mind. I call it how I see it.
