Bowswap ILF Buildalong - All Done!

Postby BK in Wisconsin on Tue Jul 27, 2010 4:24 pm

Let me first say this is going to be a LONG build-along as I'm posting it real-time as I make the bow. Expect it to take 4-5 weeks.

Ok...so after chatting with Mike a bit I'm going to be making an ILF recurve. He said he'd rather it be tough than pretty & around 55lbs. That leaves a lot of room to work with :D

So...starting with the riser. The darker wood is Chechem, the lighter yellowish is Canarywood. Both blocks have a 1/8" Phenolic I-beam laminated in them.

This will be a good build-a-long. Which riser block is for 4Nolz? I like the Checem has some nice figure in it.
Look forward to more. Brock

Good question.....

I used double sided tape to keep the blocks from sliding around & freehand cut an 18" radius circle.

Not a bad fit, but the blade wandered a bit so they need touching up.

Starting with 2 planks of Moso old-growth carbonized bamboo flooring.
First I cut them to 1.5" wide, then I put a zero clearance insert in the table saw,
flip them on their side and slice them into 3 lams.
I get 6 rough lams from each plank.

Looking great!

That bamboo flooring looks like something I'd be interested in! Hope you don't mind a few questions...
Any issues with the glue coming apart during glue-up (not the smooth-on, but the original factory glue)?
Do you flip the lams (side to side) during glue up so the factory glue seams offset each other?
Is there a good online source?
